April 2026 Challenge
The BritNed April 2026 Challenge raises over £7,800 for the MND Association
Celebrating BritNed's 15-year anniversary
Each April, the BritNed team set themselves a challenge to raise funds for a chosen charity.
In 2026, to celebrate BritNed’s 15-year anniversary, the team set themselves a target of walking, running or cycling a total of 7,800km – the equivalent of 15 journeys along BritNed’s subsea cables and back.
Supporting the MND Association
Despite setting such an ambitious target, a big push on the final days saw the team delighted to finish the month with a total of 7,818km, which is approximately 9,330,000 steps.
BritNed set themselves this ambitious target for some important reasons.
As part of this challenge, BritNed will donate £1 for every kilometre completed by the team, in support of the Motor Neurone Disease Association, helping to fund research and support people living with Motor Neurone Disease (MND).
As a result of the team’s efforts, BritNed will donate £7,818 to the Motor Neurone Disease Association.
The BritNed team chose the Motor Neurone Disease Association (MNDA) as the 2026 charity in support of a colleague, Dan Knight, whose father was diagnosed with MND in December 2023.
Fighting Against Climate Change
The successful completion of this challenge will also see the planting of 30 new trees in Tanzania, which will absorb around 3,000kg of CO2 over their lifetime, contributing to the fight against climate change.
What is MND?
MND is the short term for motor neurone disease, which affects the nerves known as motor neurones.
MND attacks the nerves in the brain and spinal cord that control movement so muscles no longer work. It moves fast, takes away independence and currently has no cure. The MNDA focuses on improving access to vital care, research and campaigning for those living with or affected by MND.
Visit the MNDA’s website to learn more about the disease.
Support Dan and the MND Association
If you’d like to contribute to this important cause, Dan has set himself an incredible challenge of his own – completing Ironman Wales in September 2026, also in support of the MNDA. You can visit Dan’s JustGiving page to learn more and donate.
Big or small, your donation will make a meaningful difference to those living with MND. Thank you.
