Supporting Local and National Charities

BritNed’s annual Charity Golf Day has initially raised £8,635 for three charities after 72 players took part in a packed day of golf, competitions and fundraising at Sittingbourne & Milton Regis Golf Club in Kent. The total amount raised is expected to be closer to £15,000.

Held on 8 June 2026, the event brought together players from across the interconnector community to raise vital funds for local and national charities; One Big Family Medway, the Motor Neurone Disease (MND) Association and Re-Engage London. The total amount raised will be shared equally between the three charities.

A Competitive Day

Now a well-established fixture in BritNed’s fundraising calendar, the Charity Golf Day continues to grow each year. In 2025, the event raised £13,900 for We Are Beams, a charity supporting disabled children and their families in Kent and Medway.

This year’s event featured a full programme of activity on and off the course, including team prizes, Nearest the Pin challenges, the Longest Drive, Blind Putting, a raffle, and a new Golf Darts competition.

Teams from across the National Grid portfolio of interconnectors were successful on the day, with teams representing IFA, IFA2, Viking Link and North Sea Link picking up different awards, whilst BritNed’s very own Customer and Markets Manager won the highest score in the new Golf Darts competition.

generosity and enthusiasm

This year’s total will be shared between three causes doing important work in their communities: One Big Family Medway, which supports people experiencing hardship and homelessness; the Motor Neurone Disease (MND) Association, which funds care, research and support for people affected by MND; and Re-Engage London, which helps tackle loneliness and social isolation among older people.

Robert Warburton, who organises the annual event, said the success of the day reflected the generosity and enthusiasm of everyone involved.

“It was fantastic to see so many people come together for another brilliant Charity Golf Day, including colleagues from other interconnectors. The support from players, the BritNed volunteers who support the day, and the generosity of everyone who donated prizes has been incredible. Raising more than £8,600 for three wonderful charities is something we can all be very proud of, and we expect the amount to rise over the coming weeks. I’m hugely grateful to everyone who helped make the day such a success – despite some challenging weather on the day!”

BritNed would like to thank all players, sponsors (including the Bluebell Hill Golf Society and Ray Dor Signs), prize donors, volunteers and Sittingbourne & Milton Regis Golf Club for their support in making the 2026 Charity Golf Day a memorable and successful fundraising event.

Making a Difference

Following the event, Pete Collins, Corporate Development Manager at the MND Association said:

“Thank you for your support for the MND Association through the BritNed Annual Golf Day. The money raised allows the Association to reach more people living with MND, while also funding important research into potential new treatments. Together, we can help to make Every Day Matter for people living with and affected by MND.”

A spokesperson for One Big Family commented:

“On behalf of One Big Family, we would like to extend our sincere thanks to BritNed for hosting such a fantastic Golf Day in support of our charity.

Your generosity, dedication, and hard work in organising this event have made a meaningful difference. Not only did the day bring people together for an enjoyable and memorable experience, but it also raised valuable funds that will help us continue our work and support those who rely on our services.

We are incredibly grateful to everyone involved – from the organisers and sponsors to the players and volunteers – whose contributions helped make the event such a success. Thank you for choosing to support our cause. Your commitment and community spirit are truly appreciated, and we look forward to the opportunity to work together again in the future.”

Over a Decade of Supporting Charities

BritNed has been running Charity Golf Days for over 10 years, each one organised by Rob. In total, almost £50,000 has been raised from the BritNed Charity Golf Days.

In 2015, Rob organised BritNed’s first Charity Golf Day in support of Abbey Court Community Special Foundation School, which is a special school for pupils aged 3-19 with severe and profound learning difficulties. Rob’s daughter was a pupil at the school, and he led the efforts to raise funds to support a number of important projects, including a secondary rebound therapy room.

Since 2015, Rob has continued to organise BritNed’s Charity Golf Days, which have contributed to many important projects, including the refurbishment of a hydrotherapy pool and sensory equipment for Abbey Court. The events have also supported a number of other charities, including Demelza Hospice Care for Children, who ensure seriously ill babies and children continue to receive the care that they need when they need it most, and We Are Beams, who support disabled children and their families in Kent and Medway.

In addition to the Charity Golf Day, BritNed has also recently raised over £7,800 for the MND Association, as part of a month-long challenge to celebrate its 15-year anniversary.
