ISO/IEC 27001 Certification
BritNed achieves ISO/IEC 27001 certification, a globally recognised standard for information security.
A globally recognised standard for information security
BritNed is pleased to announce it has achieved ISO/IEC 27001 certification, a globally recognised standard for information security, becoming one of the first GB interconnectors to achieve the certification. ISO 27001 certification validates that BritNed’s approach to information security aligns with industry best practice.
ISO 27001 sets the standard for implementing, maintaining, and continuously improving an Information Security Management System (ISMS). Certification was awarded by the LRQA, following an extensive audit process. This achievement reflects BritNed’s commitment to safeguarding the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of information it holds, helping to protect against current and future threats.
What is ISO/IEC 27001?
ISO/IEC 27001 is the global gold standard for information security. It defines how organisations systematically identify, manage, and reduce information security risks. It embeds security into the fabric of day-to-day operations rather than treating it as a bolt-on.
Achieving certification was a significant and complex undertaking. At its core, it meant designing and implementing an Information Security Management System, which involved:
- Identifying and assessing information security risks across all business areas and technologies.
- Strengthening systems, applications, and networks with improved controls and resilience measures.
- Standardising policies and governance for consistent and auditable security controls.
- Embedding security into daily operations and business decision making.
- Enhancing supplier and third-party risk management.
- Establishing clear roles and accountability throughout the organisation.
- Raising security awareness and capability across the organisation, ensuring employees understand their responsibilities and actively contribute to protecting critical services.
As ISO 27001 requires continual improvement, we will keep adapting our security as threats and business needs evolve.
Information Security is a Collaborative Effort
Achieving this milestone was truly a collective effort, involving every department within the organisation from Legal and Commercial, to Cyber, Operations, and Customer & Markets. Senior leadership also provided vital guidance and support throughout the process.
Securing the certification demanded that the team collaborate closely, aligning their efforts to create a unified and comprehensive approach to security.
